♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Department reports accused Richfield, Rowan County killer Montannez “Nez” Moody was found face down dead in swamp in Edgecombe county about 9:50 a.m.. He is believed to be dead of a cocaine overdose.
Authorities with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office discovered Moody, also known as Nez, off N.C. 43, in the Pinetops Community. His vehicle and a handgun used in the shooting death of Jennifer Merriman and shooting of Bernice Merriman were also found.
After the murder in Rowan County Moody drove to Guilford County where he committed several crimes there.
Edgecombe County Sheriff’s deputies and a K-9 team were joined by N.C. Highway Patrol helicopter in the intensive manhunt for Moody. Tips came in telling the Edgecombe Sheriff’s department that Moody was afoot in the woods where he was eventually discovered dead.
Moody was said to be doing large amount of cocaine during his flight from the law since the murder of Jennifer Merriman, 17, and the wounding of Moody’s estranged wife during a house break-in over in Richfield, Rowan County.
