Update: Killer found dead this morning:
♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is hunting for Montannez Antonio Moody, 33, from Concord, alleged to have murdered a 17 year-old girl in Richfield, Rowan County. The shooting took place around 10 p.m. Saturday night.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on the 4000 block of Richfield Road on a home invasion and shooting report. When they arrived they discovered two females with gunshot wounds, ages 17 and 54. Both females were transported to the hospital by Rowan County EMS. Jennifer Merriman, 17, died from gunshot wounds. Julia Moody,54, is expected to survive.
Moody allegedly showed up at his estranged wife Julia Moody’s home, broke out a door window, and started firing. According to reports Moody’s estranged wife, Julia, filed a domestic violence order in late-August. The couple was due in court for that order on Monday.
The Rowan Sheriff’s Office obtained warrants for Moody’s arrest on the charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, first-degree burglary and violation of a 50B domestic violence order.
Considered armed and extremely dangerous. Moody is thought to be driving a silver four-door 2006 Infiniti M35 with North Carolina tags “CDX6051″. The vehicle may have have a front vanity tag proclaiming “U DIG”.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, Moody is a registered sex offender. Convicted in 2004 of second-degree sexual offense (soliciting), Moody is also a felon and can not possess a firearm. His previous convictions include a misdemeanor assault on a female, misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon and misdemeanor tampering with a vehicle. His record shows traffic infractions, including driving while impaired.
