♦ Tyrone Rufus Davis, 37, was wounded by a pair of drive-bye robbers on MLK, Jr., Ave. near Cemetery Street at 1 a.m. Monday. Davis sustained a foot wound when he attempted to flee. He was transported Novant Health Rowan Medical Center’s emergency department by his sister.
In the early morning hours Davis walked down MLK, Jr. when noticed car headlights approaching. Believing he knew the people in the car, Davis stepped up to the vehicle as it slowed down. Right away he knew he made a mistake when he noticed what appeared like a handgun. The driver demanded Davis turn loose all his “stuff”. Davis had other ideas and started running when he heard the bap–bap-bap of three gunshots.
Davis quickly learned he’d been hit. He went down in a front yard on MLK, Jr. The car sped off before he called his sister to come get him and take him to the hospital.
The two robbers were black males and drove a midsized blue sedan.
