Steve Mensing, Editor
♦ The Rowan Free Press will take a brief hiatus from Saturday September 27th until Tuesday September 30th or Wednesday October 1st when it will reemerge from a migration.
Your editor is relocating to Madison, Wisconsin (The Berkeley of the Midwest and certainly among the most beautiful and forward thinking cities in the USA).
Digitally publishing the Rowan Free Press in absentia will present zero challenges as I have a large and growing open-source team in Salisbury and Rowan County. Anything happening in Salisbury or Rowan county will be relayed to us in an instant via high-speed internet, phone, scanner, and teleconference. I really appreciate all the assistance I’ve been getting from contributors (staff) and from folks sourcing us news, leads, and information.
I will remain in close contact with my many friends in Salisbury and Rowan county because of our high-speed internet connection and from commuting back and forth from Madison to Salisbury.
I can no longer be accused of being on the payroll of TWC. I signed up with Charter Spectrum here in Madison which will provide 60 Mbps downstream for $29 a month. I’m informed that like TWC you can renegotiate your price when your deal times out in a year. They have a large fleet of internet and TV providers in Madison.
I look forward to the day when Salisbury makes a comeback from their poverty, literacy challenges, severely dysfunctional municipal government, crime, and poor performing public education. Correction and solutions exist, but so far I see no sign of an outward path–just more of the same. If they don’t correct what they are doing they will see even more urban flight.
