♦ Marterius Azende Robinson,16, of the 600 block of Laurel Pointe Circle in Salisbury, N.C. allegedly stole a 1998 Honda van and slammed into a phone pole at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday by the corner of West Bank Street and Messner. The police were in pursuit.
Robinson was driving without lights and with no license plate when police observed his erratic behavior near Partee and Monroe Streets. When the officer attempted to stop Robinson, the van sped up and turned onto Grim Street, site of last summer’s gun violence, before it drove down West Bank, tried to make a left hand turn onto Messner where it smashed into a phone pole.
Robinson, a student, was charged with receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, and having no operator’s license. He was brought to the Rowan County Detention Center after being placed under a $25,000 secured bond.
Robinson was alone when the police pulled him out and soon discovered the van was stolen.
Robinson was previously arrested for breaking into cars in August.
