RFP Staff
♦ In the last several days sources within the Salisbury Post and elsewhere are reporting that Boone Newspapers Inc. of Tuscaloosa, Alabama are continuing their policy of “streamlining” the Salisbury Post to make it a more profitable operation.
Over the last few months several staffers left in the newsroom including Chris Verner, Jim Holt (deceased), and Emily Ford to be replaced by a growing youth movement not unlike the personnel shifts that occurred during the changes set in motion after the Hurley Family sold the Salisbury Post. Cutbacks in hours occurred also for non newsroom employees, some of whom were asked to take on added duties as well. Remaining employees complain about their workloads being increased, doing double duty, and the loss of vacation time. Vacations were reduced to a maximum 2 weeks tops despite many long-time veterans having had 4 plus weeks based on longevity.
In the coming weeks several upper echelon veteran employees, in both management and in the newsroom, are expected to transition out.
