Letter-to-the-Editor: Google Disses Salisbury in Favor of Cornelius as its Annual “E-City Award” Winner

♦ The Google awards are blatantly unfair!  The Town of Cornelius, North Carolina has made nowhere near the sacrifices and spent no where close to the public funds that Salisbury has invested into Fibrant and making it a “gig City”.

As a taxpayer of Salisbury NC, I ask the city council to launch an inquiry into the process by which Google selects its annual “e-City” award winner.  As much as we’ve spent on Fibrant, the City of Salisbury should be the hands-down winner of this annual award for at least the last three years running. We sacrificed our water and sewer system. We’ve hung our police and firemen out to dry. Our slush funds were eaten alive by Fibrant. Our 3 Fibrant employees were reduced to mowing weed choked city properties and changing the big light bulbs near the square. Moody’s downgraded our bond ratings thanks to the city’s sacrifices to Fibrant and next year the chickens will come home to roost as we go junk bond status over Fibrant scarfing up millions from water and sewer…and not paying a nickel back.  We were even willing to sacrifice the county utility payers for the betterment of Fibrant.

City Council’s number one priority for 2015 should be to take Salisbury’s rightful place as North Carolina’s “eCity Digital Capital of North Carolina”.

YES, WE CAN!
