♦ Salisbury, N.C. drug king Jorge Molina-Sanchez was sentenced to 35 years in Federal prison on Tuesday for trafficking heroin and cocaine. With Federal sentence no chance of parole exists. Chief U.S. District Judge Frank D. Whitney handed down the sentence after a May 2013 conviction by a Federal Jury.
Molina-Sanchez, a native of Mexico, lived 620 W. Franklin Street in Salisbury. He was convicted of conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute at least 5 kilograms of cocaine and at least 1 kilogram of heroin, conspiracy to launder proceeds of drug trafficking, possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.
Molina-Sanchez and his conspirators, according to court documents from 2004 to 2011 obtained more than 350 kilos of cocaine with a street value of more than $30 million from a supplier in California. Along with his conspirators including his brother Juan, Molina-Sanchez transported and distributed the cocaine to traffickers who sold it throughout North Carolina.
Investigators said Molina-Sanchez and his conspirators hid money and drugs in secret compartments in vehicles to avoid detection during transport. Federal investigators found thousands of dollars, 3 kilograms of coke and a kilogram of heroin stashed in vehicles.
Molina-Sanchez was arrested in October 2012. Found on him was 3 ounces of cocaine, two handguns, and more than a 100 rounds of ammunition.. His brother Juan, according to law enforcement at the time, was the largest drug supplier in Rowan County before being sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in prison
The Molina-Sanchez family at one time either owned or had connections to homes on Old Beatty Ford Road, Patriot Circle, West Franklin Street, Chesapeake Drive and another on Mount Hall Road in Cleveland.
Involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case were the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force which is a joint federal, state and local cooperative approach to combat drug trafficking and is the nation’s primary tool for disrupting and dismantling major drug trafficking organizations. The task force targets national and regional level drug trafficking organizations and coordinates the necessary law enforcement entities and resources to break up targeted criminal organizations and seize their assets.
The following agencies joined in the investigation of this case were: Homeland Security Investigations (Charlotte), the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police and its crime lab, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office and its crime lab and the North Carolina SBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven R. Kaufman prosecuted the case.
