♦ Amazon has entered the IPTV cord cutting world with a new “TV stick” device called the “Amazon Fire Stick” that will compete with Google’s Chromecast stick and Roku’s stick. Amazon.com is taking preorders for the Fire Stick at $39 with shipping scheduled to start on November 19th.

Similar to Google and Roku’s TV sticks from Google and Roku, the Fire Stick provides access to movies, TV shows, apps, games, music, and photos. The new Amazon Fire Stick allows its users to backup video content from their smart phone to Amazon Cloud so they can added to their Fire TV Stick.

Amazon says the Fire Stick has a dual core processor claiming to have 50% more processing power and twice the memory as the Chromecast stick. In contrast with the Roku stick, Amazon maintains its product has 6 times the processing power and twice the memory. Added to this boast, the Amazon’s Fire Stick’s dongle connects to HDMI ports on the rear of HD TVs. The Amazon Fire stick also sports an app supporting voice search on Fire and Android phones and a remote. Before long Amazon expects a similar app for IPhone.

The Fire Stick has 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, dual band and dual-antenna Wi-Fi. The Amazon stick flings movies and TV shows from Fire tablets and phones to Fire TV Sticks and then to TVs.
