UPDATE: Salisbury Police investigators are now calling the Standish Street fire an arson.
♦ According to Salisbury Fire Department and Salisbury Police Department sources, a suspicious “multiple points of origin” fire is being investigated on the 1300 block of Standish Street in Salisbury, N.C. The Salisbury Fire Department, the Spencer Fire Department, and Granite Quarry Fire Department all responded to the scene where they were joined by the Salisbury Police Department and Rowan Emergency Services.
Fire fighters answered a call to a single-story home on the 1300 block of Standish Street sometime after 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. The dispatcher was said to have received a call saying the homeowner might be trapped inside the dwelling. However, after the fire was quickly put out, the search crews were unable to find any persons inside the dwelling.
The fire was reported as starting the front room of the structure. Nearly a third of the home sustained fire, water, and smoke damage. The actual causes of the fire remain under investigation. Because the first fire fighters on the scene found possible multiple points of origin for the fire, arson has not been ruled out. Yet explanations exist for why a fire may “appear” to have multiple origins–typically drifting embers and falling burning debris may spread fire and give the illusion of multiple origins.
