♦ William Johnson, from Salisbury, N.C died Monday in a camper fire at the Conestoga Mobile Home Park on the 1071 Conestoga Trail near Gaskey and Airport Roads.
Johnson, in his 50’s, was alone at the time of the fire which spread quickly through the camper and trapped the victim. A mobile park resident pulled Johnson from the burning camper, but CPR attempts failed and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire was called into the 911 dispatcher at approximately 6:50 p.m.
Firefighters were said to have heard several concussions of unknown origin coming from the camper just as they pulled into mobile home park.
Deputies of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office have taken over the fire scene investigation. The cause of the fire is yet unknown.
