♦ The saga of the Complete Streets Study in Salisbury, NC is approaching legendary status in the Rowan County and the surrounding region. Salisbury’s City Council swallowed a poison pill at the January 6th meeting which will flood its dying Downtown area with ever increasing vacancies, turn East Innes Street into a Bataan Death March crawl and rain harm on the East Innes Street chain store and restaurant district. We’re talking Salisbury’s real tax base here.
Further the Complete Streets fiasco will magnify human beings unwillingness to go anywhere near Salisbury’s cesspool of violent crime, mushrooming poverty, and economic segregation. If the “Complete Streets” study is ever mobilized you can bet a few favored pockets will be lined.
Hopefully when Salisbury achieves junk bond status sometime between now and the Spring by failing to heed Moody’s Bond Ratings warning about replenishing the water and sewer funds, Complete Streets “rickshaw” and beautification project will be hacked off at the knees. And as for safety you will continue to see bodies crumpled on the street by Wilco-Hess because no median will ever protect a jaywalker in a hurry-up to get to the Waffle House side.
As usual nobody was listening at City Council where they are forever “working on it”. A highlight video of the public commentary at City Council’s Complete Streets meeting:
