♦ Gene Link, 90, who his son Tony helped escape from his burning home on Rainey Road near Faith, N.C., passed away from complications at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center where he was being treated for smoke inhalation since Sunday.
Reports say the Rainey Road fire that raged though the house, started on a mat beneath Link’s wood stove. Soon the one-story home was completely engulfed in flames and smoke. Several area firefighting companies responded to the blaze along with the Rowan County Rescue Squad. Mr. Link had lived alone in the home at the time of the fire.
