Hello, Friends and Constituents of District 77!
The 2015- 2016 session work began this past week, as the gears of government slowly started to grind into action on Wednesday, January 28th with the first working session of the new legislative term. Since the opening ceremonies on January 14th, 35 bills were filed with the House Principal Clerk and received their first reading on the House floor, then were assigned to their respective committees for review.
Below is the list of bills filed so far. You can read the text of the bills by clicking on the bill number. I have also included the MVA Public Affairs summary of last week’s only committee meeting and a calendar of upcoming events to keep you posted.

The newly announced committees have not yet begun to meet but now that legislation is being assigned to them, the meetings will start up very soon.
Committee meetings are open to the public, so if you would like to attend one that is focusing on a subject of interest to you, feel welcome to attend. Meeting schedules are subject to change (sometimes at the last minute), so be sure to confirm the schedule on the General Assembly website or by contacting the office of the Committee Chair, before you make the two-hour drive to Raleigh.
If you would like to attend a meeting, but can’t make it to Raleigh, you can still “attend” many of the meetings by listening online. You must first determine in what room the committee is meeting. If the committee meets in either room 544 or 643, you can listen online. To access the audio version of a meeting, go to: www.ncleg.net, click on “audio” on the bar near the top, then select either “Finance Committee Room (Room 544)” or “Appropriations Committee Room (Room 643)” to listen.
For your reference, here is a list of the Committees that I will be serving on this session:

The Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee was the only committee to meet this week. So far, the long session has been off to a slower start than the blistering pace set during 2014 short session. MVA Public Affairs expects to see more legislative action following the Governor’s address Tuesday. (The Governor was invited to a joint session of the House and Senate (the Senators will come into the House and be seated) to give his State of the State Address this Wednesday, February 4. You will be able to watch or listen to his address on line. – HW)
ON THE FLOOR
This week the House passed two bills. House Resolution 17, Amend House Temporary Rules, does as the name implies and amends the temporary rules of the House concerning voting on resolutions, standing committees, assignment of seats, and conforming changes. Senate Joint Resolution 4, invites Governor McCrory to deliver the State of the State Address to the General Assembly. The address will be held Tuesday, February 3.
