♦ Rowan-Salisbury’s Schools graded poorly on the State Education school performance grade assessment released today in Raleigh.  Each Rowan-Salisbury School was assigned a letter grade from an A to an F based achievement and growth.  80% for achievement and 20% for growth.

No Rowan-Salisbury school achieved an A.

Receiving Bs were: Carson High, East Rowan High, Rowan County Early College, and Bostian Elementary.

Attaining Cs were China Grove, Cleveland, Shive, Enochville, Faith, Millbridge, Morgan, Mount Ulla, Rockwell and Woodleaf elementary schools. China Grove and West Rowan middle schools and Salisbury High, South Rowan High and West Rowan High also received Cs.

Receiving Ds were Overton, Koontz, Granite Quarry, Isenberg, Hanford Dole, Hurley, Knollwood and Landis elementary schools.  Corriher-Lipe, Erwin, Knox, North Rowan and Southeast middle schools also received Ds as did North Rowan High.

North Rowan Elementary received the only F.

State-wide 64.5% of schools received either Cs or Ds. Schools receiving a “D” or “F” grade are required to send letters home to parents.

Schools within the City of Salisbury’s boundaries fared pretty badly.  Such abysmal grades would make parents think long and hard about sending their children elsewhere for an education.  The grades will also present a barrier to families considering moving to Salisbury.

The RFP will put up a more detailed graph within the next day or so.
