♦ According to the N.C. Department of Public Instruction (2013-2014), incidents of crime and violence rose in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools in the last school year over the previous. Most reported incidents were possessions of controlled substances, weapons, and alcoholic beverages on school premises.
The Rowan-Salisbury school system reported 79 cases of controlled substance possession. 15 such cases were reported at East Rowan; 12 at Carson; 10 at Henderson Independent; 9 at West Rowan High; 6 each at North Rowan High, Salisbury High and China Grove Middle; 4 at Southeast Middle; 3 at Erwin and North Rowan Middle, 2 at at Southeast and West Rowan Middle schools and 1 at Koontz Elementary.
• 21 incidents of weapons possession were recorded throughout the Rowan-Salisbury Schools. 4 incidents at West Rowan Middle; 3 at both East Rowan and Southeast Middle; 2 each at Salisbury High, North Rowan Middle, Koontz Elementary and Woodleaf Elementary. 1 each at West Rowan High, Millbridge Elementary and Rockwell Elementary
• 14 Incidents of alcoholic beverage possession were reported. 7 at South Rowan High, 3 at East Rowan High, 2 at both Corriher-Lipe Middle and at North Rowan High.
• 8 incidents of assault on school personnel. 3 Occurred at Koontz Elementary, 2 at West Rowan High. 1 each at Landis Elementary, Salisbury High, and Henderson Independent.
• 2 incidents of assaults with the use of a weapon were recorded. 1 each at North Rowan Middle and Southeast Middle.
• 2 incidents of sexual assaults were recorded. 1 each at Overton elementary and Corriher-Lipe Middle.
• 1 sexual offense incident took place at West Rowan Middle.
East Rowan High possessed the highest crime and violence rate in the Rowan-Salisbury Schools with 22 incidents reported. Its rate was 21.42 acts reported per 1,000 students. Reported at East Rowan High: 15 controlled substances possessions, 3 alcoholic beverages possessions, 3 weapons possessions. 1 sexual assault.
Carson and South Rowan High Schools owned the 2nd highest number of crime and violence incidents. 12 occurred at each school.
