♦ Lane Bailey, 51, the City Manager at the City of Lenoir, N.C., was named new Salisbury City Manager today. Lane Bailey’s linked-in account shows extensive government management experience. He was the City Manager of Lenoir, N.C. from 2004 to present and prior to that the City Manager of the City of King, N.C. and the County Manager of Polk County, N.C. The new city manager will assume his duties in the middle of March when his contract ends with the City of Lenoir.
Mr. Bailey has two children Brennan and Katherine. His wife is a school counselor in Lenoir. The new city manager was the past president of the North Carolina City County Management Association. He graduated Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration. In 2009 he was named NC Society of Certified Managers Public Manager of the Year.
According to a City of Salisbury Tweet: “Mayor Woodson noted Council received 56 applications and narrowed the field to 6 before unanimously deciding Mr. Bailey was the best fit.”
Salisbury’s City Council made a surprising choice in going outside of City Hall to find the next city manager. Mr. Bailey will be replacing the “mutually terminated” Doug Paris.
