♦Today City Hall announced they are withdrawing their LGC application for the Taj Mahal. This marks the end of the downtown Central Office saga at 329 S. Main. Likely we’ll see more “make bad” finger pointing at the county. The LGC application never had a chance as we have enumerated many times in the past. It failed far too many tests.
Some of the issues of the LGC controversy include: (1) The false assertion that the public debt is for economic development of a ‘commercial’ building when, in fact, the building is proposed to house a non-federal office building for the Rowan-Salisbury Schools — whose funding partner is the Rowan County Commissioners; (2) The 35 month tenant on a 20-year loan agreement; and (3) the lack of a ‘no further action’ letter from NCDENR. That letter from Mooresville DENR representative actually means nothing, even though up until this point, Salisbury has successfully ‘spun’ it to fool local media.
The City of Salisbury is now talking about a court battle with invisible forces. The simple fact is the city’s badly constructed LGC application never had a chance and few believers.
Many thousands of taxpayers will celebrate throughout Rowan County and Salisbury now that this issue is dead save for the city’s likely ”blame game”.
There is no verifiable evidence that Doug Paris was kneeling in prayer at the entrance of the Empire Bat-Tel nor can we verify that Daddy Warbucks is racing down South Main, looking to toss a sack full of money onto 329 S. Main.
