…A SIGNIFICANT WINTER STORM WILL AFFECT THE REGION THIS EVENING
AND TONIGHT…
.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER THE NORTHERN GULF OF MEXICO THIS
EVENING WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTH FLORIDA AND SOUTH GEORGIA…AND
THEN TRACK QUICKLY NORTHEASTWARD ALONG THE CAROLINA COAST THURSDAY
MORNING. PRECIPITATION WILL FALL MAINLY AS SNOW INTO THE COLDER
AIR GENERALLY ALONG AND NORTH OF INTERSTATE 85. THE SNOW IS
LIKELY TO BE HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS AS
THE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MAKES ITS CLOSEST PASS BY THE AREA. THE
HEAVY SNOW WILL MOVE EAST AND TAPER OFF EARLY THURSDAY MORNING AS
THE LOW MOVES NORTHEAST ACROSS THE WESTERN ATLANTIC.AREAS SOUTH OF
INTERSTATE 85 WILL SEE A MIX OF SNOW…SLEET…AND RAIN. THE
PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE UPSTATE AND THE
LAKELANDS MAY CHANGE BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN SNOW AND RAIN SEVERAL
TIMES.

* LOCATIONS…FOR MOST OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA…NORTHEAST
GEORGIA AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA UPSTATE.
* HAZARDS…RAPIDLY ACCUMULATING SNOW ON HIGHWAYS THIS EVENING
INTO EARLY THURSDAY THAT WILL CAUSE VERY HAZARDOUS TRAVEL
CONDITIONS. HEAVY SNOW WILL RESTRICT VISIBILITIES TO LESS THAN
ONE HALF MILE AT TIMES.
* TIMING…PRECIPITATION WILL CONTINUE TO FALL ACROSS THE REGION
THROUGH THE EARLY MORNING HOURS. THE PRECIPITATION SHOULD
GRADUALLY TAPER OFF FROM THE SOUTHWEST BETWEEN 2 AM AND
DAYBREAK.
* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 5 INCHES…WITH
LOCALLY HIGHER AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 8 INCHES ACROSS THE WESTERN
PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA AND SOME HIGHER ELEVATIONS ACROSS THE
MOUNTAINS. THERE COULD ALSO BE A TRACE OF ICE THURSDAY MORNING.
* IMPACTS…HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DUE TO SNOW ON HIGHWAYS.
* TEMPERATURES…IN THE LOWER 30S.
* WINDS…NORTHEAST 5 MPH OR LESS.
