Rabbi Will McCubbins, China Grove, N.C.

♦ Ten years down the road former Commission Chairman Jim Sides will be praised to the sky for his and the old commission’s purchase of the West End Plaza.  The mixed use government plaza will save Rowan Taxpayers millions in much needed space and it will continue to stabilize the Salisbury neighborhood surrounding it.

The attacks on Jim and the so called “Tea Party Mall” were purely political and meant to keep the Salisbury 5 families and their cronies in power while they suck the last drops of blood out of Salisbury’s corpse.  “8 block” has moved to forgettable status after years of corruption and old boy cronyism.  It’s death rattle is growing quiet now.  The Bury is finito.  Cities like Salisbury have a greased 90 degree climb out of  big time crime, drugs, and poverty.  As people roll out of Salisbury to safer places like the county, Mooresville, Kannapolis, and Concord, city hall chases more grants for public housing.  What does city hall expect?  Are they in a race to double their poverty and their crime?

Greg Edds boast that partnering with the city will make the West End Plaza a real “gem”.  Wonder what he promised city council behind closed doors?  They don’t know the “insurance salesmen”.  He’ll smile in your face and tell someone else a completely different story.  Yeah the new county commissioners will sell the “entire community”.  Does EZ Edds mean convince the community?  Or pimp them down river?  Anybody with two rocks to bang together to make a thought would see the West End Plaza helps not only its neighborhood, but it saves everybody in the county on the taxes that might’ve been spent on new construction.

Edds is partially right about the city and county having bigger issues to deal with.  Like the fact that Salisbury is a must to avoid unless you’re trucking around in an armored car and or its unlikely to attract any traditional economic development. The county isn’t in that same hole, but you can count on the “insurance salesman” and his new buds jacking up the taxes.  He’ll use the old Salisbury City Council move.  Get the manager to ask for a 20 cent raise in taxes and put on the act about lowering taxes to 5 cents.  He’ll say the old commissioners were the cause of the tax raises because they “neglected the schools”.  Never take your eye for a moment off the “insurance salesman”.

Love the way the city council praised their new pal.  They “trust” him.  He’ll give the city council everything they want.  Just like he gave them the airport.  There’s nothing quite like trusting an “insurance salesman”.  Yet who would trust Salisbury’s City Council with their “mutual termination” and “golden parachute” cover-up?  City council trying to hide two major embezzlements.  Telling tall stories about their “gig” fiber optic network.  And the “insurance salesman’s” track record is glaring.  Who will win the backstabbing contest?

“Trust”?
