♦ Derrick Dashawn Brown, 20, of the 400 block of Grim Street in Salisbury, subject of an intensive manhunt, was captured early Friday Morning. He was charged with kidnapping (felony) and 2 counts of larceny of a motor vehicle (felony) and placed under a $500,000 secured bond. He is now in the Rowan County Detention Center.

“Salisbury Police are hunting Derrick Dashawn Brown, 20, of the 400 block of Grim Street in the West End of Salisbury for allegedly stealing a Ford Escape with a 3 year-old child inside it. The car was stolen from the lot of the Pop Shoppe on the 1800 block of West Innes in Salisbury on Wednesday around 12:50 a.m. The car owner was said to have left the Escape’s doors open and its engines running while he went to purchase cigarettes and lottery tickets. While making his purchases the car owner spotted someone jump into his Escape and drive off. Immediately the owner and a Pop Shoppe clerk gave chase on foot, but to no avail.
A 2nd vehicle was allegedly stolen by Brown from in front of a home on the 1100 block of South Main in Salisbury. The car was a white Cadillac Deville.
Within an hour a female contacted the Police to check on a vehicle parked in front of her home on Tabernacle Street in Salisbury. Thankfully the vehicle proved to be the missing Ford Escape with the child inside and unharmed.
Police now have issued warrants for Brown for one count of kidnapping (felony) and 2 counts of motor vehicle larceny (felony). Brown is a black male, 5’9″, and weighing approximately 165 Lbs. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with an American Flag, a gray sweatpants, white sneakers, and a gray hoodie.
