♦ In Yesterday’s School Board Meeting in East Spencer the School Board unanimously opted to make West Rowan Elementary the top priority for its next building project. For nearly 20 years a new school for West Rowan youngsters was put off. Now the West Rowan Elementary School construction project, to be funded from funds previously allocated by the Rowan County Commissioners, will have a start date sometime in the near future after the best site is decided upon by the school board.
Many persons living in the communities of Woodleaf and Cleveland desired to keep their community schools separate without consolidation, yet with the school system facing so many capital needs two separate schools was not a viable option.
$11 million remaining from the West Rowan Elementary project would be utilized for roofing and safety needs.
The school district still faces the important Knox Elementary School Project, as well as roofing, maintenance, and paving needs.
