Rodney Cress, Veterans Advocate
♦ I received a call Friday from the Governor’s office concerning this bill. The bill has passed the House unanimously and is moving up to Judiciary. I have been asked to locate any veteran group in support of this bill that is willing to write a letter of support for it. In short, this bill allows those who have completed military police training to be allowed to become law officers in NC without the normal 600+ hours required of training. Since the MP’s have already been trained, they will have to attend only 180 hours. This will bring more qualified law officers into North Carolina.
Sheriff’s Standards are opposing this bill apparently for selfish reasons. As a former Deputy Sheriff and combat Army veteran, I support this bill for all the right reasons. If your veteran group is in support of it, please contact N.C. Senator Tom McGinnis
