♦  We don’t mean to be critical of criminal life in the Bury, but it appears two alleged robbers “dropped the ball” at the Citgo station at 939 Jake Alexander Blvd at 4 a.m. Sunday. Malik Jaquon Thompson, 18, of Fawn Creek Road and his pal Guye Khan Hunt, 21, of North Lee Street, both from Salisbury, appeared not to fully dedicate their attention to task at hand.

Nathaniel England just finished purchasing gas when a young black male approached England’s car and muttered words to the effect he wanted to hold some money. England replied he didn’t have any money. Again the man muttered and England asked for clarification. When England heard the man use the word “gun”, he promptly pulled out of the Citgo lot and drove across Jake Alexander to the Waffle House where he found a Salisbury Police Officer working “extra duty”. Right away the officer went to Pop Shoppe lot and spotted the car described by England. Malik Jaquon Thompson and Guye Khan Hunt were sitting carefree at the scene of their alleged stickup gone wrong. Apparently a trio of their associates were purchasing snacks at the Pop Shoppe. Hunt and Thompson were arrested on the spot. The three associates were released because they were busy “shopping” in the convenience store.

Within 20 minutes Salisbury Police, Sheriff’s Office, and Highway Patrol vehicles began filling up the Citgo lot and early morning drivers slowed to watch.

The pair’s luck worsened. the odor of reefer was detected and a search of the alleged robber’s trunk betrayed a 12-guage shotgun (reportedly stolen), 15 grams of marijuana, a glass jar and a digital scales.

Thompson was charged with attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon (felony).  Under a $50,000 secured bond, Thompson is now in the Rowan County Detention Center and awaits his first hearing on May 12th.

Hunt was charged with the possession of stolen goods (the 12-guage shotgun) (felony) and possession with intent to manufacture/sell/distribute a controlled substance schedule VI (felony)(Marijuana). Under a $25,000 secured bond, Hunt is in the Rowan County Detention Center.

The moral of the story is never do crime and if your impulses happen to tug you in the wrong direction, never linger long at the scene of a holdup.

Thompson has no prior criminal record. Hunt’s record is as follows:
