♦ Just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday Kijuan Dishad Lamont Sweat, 22, of East Spencer, N.C. was shot at West Cauble Place on the 800 block of South Long Street in East Spencer and later died at the Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. The shooting occurred near an apartment complex in East Spencer’s “Brick Yard” area. East Spencer sources are calling the shooting a drive-by. East Spencer Police surrounded a Blue Ford Expedition with yellow crime scene tape. The windows were smashed and the vehicle was riddled with bullet holes. SBI investigators were also on the scene.
The critically wounded driver Kijuan Dishad Lamont Sweat attempted to drive a second vehicle to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center and crashed the vehicle about a block away on Annandale Avenue by West Henderson Street near Hurley Park. Its said Sweat toppled out of the vehicle and dropped a handgun to the ground.
Sweat was pronounced dead at the hospital the result of multiple bullet wounds. A 4-year old passenger was wounded in the shooting and was transported to the hospital. His condition is not yet known. Two other youngsters (2 and 5 years old) were in the original vehicle and are apparently is uninjured.
The wounded youngster has not been identified. He was transported to Carolinas Medical Center. His wounds are not life threatening.
Word in the East Spencer neighborhood alleges this shooting was tied to the Steven Rosario shooting in Salisbury. The late Steven Omario Rosario has been identified as a member of the Blood gang. As yet the RFP could not substantiate the link between this morning’s East Spencer shooting and the Rosario shooting.
