♦ Drive safely this Memorial Day weekend and eat heartily. Give someone else your keys if you’ve had too much to drink. This weekend is traditionally high statistically for traffic fatalities. The N.C. Highway Patrol are out in force today and tomorrow. Don’t be a needless statistic or bring havoc to some one else’s life.
The famous Oscar Meyer Weinermobile pictured behind me is parked down the road from me at the Kraft Foods HQ in Madison. Back in the 50’s I nearly won an earlier version of the Weinermobile on the Chief Halftown Show, a popular kiddie Western Show on TV Channel 6 in Philadelphia. The Chief conducted a promotion for Oscar Meyer hotdogs. I was one of 3 finalists in a drawing for a Weinermobile, but fate destined me for a rare 2nd place finish and I had to settle for a Schwinn bicycle.
My Dad was greatly relieved he didn’t have to drive the Weinermobile home and find a parking space for it or unload it at a used car lot. I kept telling him the Weinermobile would have great value someday as a collector’s item. He was thinking short-term.
