♦An estimated crowd swelled to about 3,000 on both sides of West Innes and wrapped around both Main Street and Church Streets in Downtown Salisbury by 7 pm. Cars and busloads of Bible believers arrived in a steady flow from distant points around Rowan County and across the state and even Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia. From time to time the crowd outside the Rowan County Commission building broke into spontaneous prayers, hymns, and “God Bless America”. The Commission chambers were packed to overflowing.
