♦ Shenika Michelle Mashore, 35, of the 200 block of East Bank Street in Salisbury, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. Monday and charged with child abuse (misdemeanor) and resist/obstruct/delay of a public officer (misdemeanor). Under a secured $1,500 bond, Mashore was held in the Rowan County Detention Center until her release later in the morning. Her two children were removed by the Rowan County Department of Social Services and turned over to their grandmother.
Mashore’s difficulties began in the wee hours of Monday morning when her oldest child hailed Salisbury Police officers and told them the mother was getting “beat up”. Immediately the officers went to the child’s apartment and knocked, but no one initially answered. A short time later Mashore responded. The officers inquired if a man was in the apartment and Mashore replied that he left. The officers heard otherwise from neighbors and asked if they could take a look around. Mashore, allegedly smelling of alcohol, allowed the officers into the apartment. A short time later the police found a male under a pile of soiled laundry.
The officers examined Mashore, but found no visible signs of abuse. Afterwards the officers made contact with the Rowan County Department of Social Services.
