♦ Richard Franklin Muttz, 33, of the 300 block of Vance Avenue in Salisbury and a bicyclist, was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly trailing a female jogger across Downtown Salisbury and groping her private areas when she jogged along South Main Street near Military Avenue.
The woman jogged along Lee Street near Liberty when she first encountered Muttz riding a bicycle close to her. Feeling uneasy, she changed her route to Fisher Street and headed toward South Main Street. The bicyclist tailed close behind as the jogger again changed course and began jogging downhill through the South Main “badlands”. When she arrived at South Main and Military Avenue, Muttz allegedly made his bid and groped her. The jogger shoved him away.
Shaken by the incident, the jogger hailed a passing Salisbury Police car and described her assailant. Within minutes officers sighted a bicyclist fitting the jogger’s description and pulled him over for questioning. Muttz was soon arrested.
Muttz was charged with sexual battery (misdemeanor) and issued a $1000 secured bond. He was held at the Rowan County Detention Center before making bail.
