♦ In the largest public demonstration of any kind in recent memory, Salisbury, N.C. became the epicenter of the “Confederate Pride” on Saturday afternoon as an estimated 300 to 400 hundred vehicles and hundreds of people rode through the streets with their trucks, SUVs, cars, and motorcycles decked out with streaming Confederate battle flags. Knots of bystanders gathered on parts of Innes Street, Statesville Blvd, and Main Streets and let loose rebel yells and much whoopin’ and hollering as the Confederate Pride Ride went roaring past. Fists pumped skyward.
When the Confederate Pride Ride passed by Walmart on Arlington Street, shoppers poured out of the retailer and whooped it up when they caught sight of the Confederate Battle flags. Children saluted the caravan.
A bystander, across from the County Building, told a staffer: “Man this is beautiful. Salisbury is home to many Confederate sympathizers.”
