♦ Ryan Lane Basinger, 29, and Amity Sequoyah Basinger, 24, a married couple said to reside at dual addresses: 774 Leonard Drive in Salisbury, N.C. and at 3315 Earnhardt Road in Rockwell, were charged with cruelty to animals Wednesday. The charges were filed by Rowan County Animal Control earlier in December and concerned six dogs of various breeds allegedly left unattended at the Earnhart Road residence.
Warrants maintain the Basingers failed to provide safe food and drinkable water over an extended period for the six dogs: a female chi chi, two male pit bulls, a male terrier, a male chi chi, and a female pit bull. Several of the dogs allegedly required veterinary care to prevent suffering and failed to receive it. One of the pit bulls died, but it was not determined if the animal’s death was due to being left unattended.
The Basingers were charged with six counts of cruelty to animals. The Basingers are each under $1,500 secured bond and were placed in the Rowan County Detention Center. Both have since been released.
