Letter-to-the Editor: The Rowan County Commissioners Totally Unfair in Sending John Barber’s Case to the District Attorney

Janis Dolan, Salisbury, N.C.

♦I find it outrageously unfair that the Jon Barber case was sent by the county commissioners to District Attorney Brandy Cook’s Office.  Surely that office is prejudiced against Jon Barber having 3 times prosecuted him and 3 times convicted him for 2 DUIs and for stealing from a convenience store.  Correct me if I am wrong, but Jon Barber is innocent until  proven guilty.  Wouldn’t it have been more just to send his case to the State Bureau of Investigation instead of the County D.A.?  The D.A. is tied to the county and that office intimately knows Jon Barber’s prior convictions.

Anyone in attendance at last Monday’s county commission meeting saw the beginning of kangaroo justice in action.  Jon Barber is a lamb led off to slaughter.  Does he have any chance whatsoever against a stacked deck?  This is what happens to those who try to do good for the poor.

They would have crucified Mother Theresa in Rowan County.
