Chuck Hughes, Board of Education
♦I am pleased with the wisdom our commissioners exercised in purchasing the Salisbury Mall. I now hope they will show the same wisdom in accepting the recent counter offer from the Board of Education in addressing Rowan Salisbury School’s capital needs which includes a new Central Office building at a location that is acceptable to the entire Board of Education.
Although the specifics of the BOE’s counter offer cannot yet be made public, I can report that the board made a major concession in an attempt to put this issue to rest. It is now up to the County Commissioners to do the same.
It would be a welcomed sign if the County Commissioners called a Special Meeting to discuss this issue and hopefully approve the BOE’s counter offer before the end of the year, then act on this “deal” with the same speed, foresight and wisdom they used in purchasing the Mall. By doing so, this twenty-plus year old albatross can finally be cast aside.
