♦Marcus “Marco” Kauffman, the firefighter from West Rowan, passed away according to the Carolinas Medical Center. Marcus was officially declared dead at 12:52 P.M. Friday afternoon. Earlier today he was removed from life supports at the request of his family.
The Rowan Free Press staff offers prayers for this young man’s family and for Marco.
Marcus was 25 years old when he was shot during a burglary in process at his home on Chenault Road near the town of Cleveland, NC.
Marcus’s family periodically updates the “Praying for Marco” Facebook page. Many thousands of persons from around the state and around the nation have visited the “Praying for Marcus” website during the lengthy vigil.
Marcus was a volunteer firefighter at the Scotch Irish Fire Department in Woodleaf, NC
Four men are in custody now. Two of the mens charges will be upgraded to first degree murder: Khari Dewayne McClelland, 23, of Harmony, Jaylend Daquann Turner, 19, of Statesville. Tramel Devon Hart, 18, and Michael Dwayne Teasley, 25, were both charged with being accessories after the fact.
