♦The Rowan County Commissioners will meet on Monday January 6th at 3 P.M. at the Commission Chambers, County Building, 130 West Innes Street, Salisbury, N.C.
Tonight the Commission Chairman Jim Sides told the Rowan Free Press a discussion of the recent school board proposals may appear as a late addition to the agenda and that a new proposal was just received Friday afternoon from the school board attorneys. It was yet undecided if a closed session would be called to discuss the latest school proposal.
In recent weeks 329 S. Main was dropped from the Central Office race by the school board which now touts 504 N. Main Street site of the former J & J Flower Shop (featured picture). Thursday morning the school board met in closed-session to discuss their more recent proposals including the Central Office, potential consolidation of the Cleveland and Woodleaf Schools, and the mediation talks.
“Monday we’ll be moving forward with financing the purchase of the Salisbury Mall, ” said County Commission Chairman Sides. “That’s assured.”
The Salisbury Mall may be renamed and some discussion of the name change is slated for the commission meeting. Vice-Chairman Craig Pierce has suggested name “the West End Plaza” which would fit a public-private project.
