♦ On Thursday night neighbors watched from their windows and doorways on the 1500 block of West Horah Street as the Salisbury Police Special Response Team (SRT) moved into position around the house where a man held his allegedly “mentally disturbed” brother at knifepoint. An unidentified officer spoke calmly to the hostage taker during the standoff while deputies, from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, blocked off the street.
After several tense minutes, the man agreed to go with police. Special Response Team (SRT) members entered the house and came out several minutes later with the man in custody. An older woman, identified as the hostage taker’s grandmother, pleaded with officers to get her grandson help. It was alleged by the grandmother that her grandson had troubles with drugs and alcohol.
On the upside no one sustained injuries.
Facing a hospital evaluation, the hostage taker may face charges.
