♦ Because gunshots became the standard ambient sound in Salisbury residents tend to forget the guttural grunt of a stabbing victim.  According to Salisbury Police sources on Friday Dequarn Michael Harte, 26, living at 1225 Tabernacle Street was the victim of an assault–knife when a stranger broke through a window and entered his house.  Harte was stabbed and according to reports received severe lacerations.  Damage to the window was estimated at $100.

♦ On Monday afternoon Facebook pages all over Salisbury lit up with accounts of a shooting in broad daylight on Old West Innes and  Institute Streets across from Sonic Drive-in eatery.  Our email box filled quickly with messages describing a gun battle and mini-van being struck by bullets from a crossfire.

Later we spoke with our friend Rabbi Will McCubbins who told us he was enjoying a cheeseburger and tater tots in his painter’s truck parked in the Sonic Drive-in lot when gunfire started up.  “Dang you your could hear a whole lot of gunshots close by.  Sounded like shots were coming from two directions–a firefight was going on.  I felt for my concealed carry.  The police showed up soon after–plenty of them.  It happened a little before 1 p.m. I became very alert and very aware. It’s getting crazy in the Bury.”
