♦The recently uncovered information regarding residual contamination at 329 S. Main, information apparently withheld during recent negotiations, is testimony to the wisdom of the County Commissioners not accepting the city’s donation of land that should only be used as a parking lot. After a year of controversy, the County Commissioners were proven to be correct. Had 329 S. Main been accepted and shovels put into the ground, a vapor emission, class action law suit would had been likely in a few years.
Some legal experts believe and are actually planning class action suits related to vapor emission sites. They believe this will be the next asbestos fortune maker, but this time with millions of taxpayer dollars on the table. Why risk it? Surely the windfall of prosperity the city believed the Central Office would have brought to 329 S. Main St. will also apply to the new location on N. Main. I truly hope so. However, my concern now is that someone will eventually suggest moving the Empire Hotel to the 500 block.
