♦ According to sources in the Rowan County Sheriff’s office and the Salisbury Police, Sasha Cherie Rippey, 26, a Rockwell felon was arrested Sunday for allegedly breaking into Handford-Dole Elementary School on 465 Choate Road in Salisbury and stealing Apple IPads, damaging school property, and resisting arrest. The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office were first on the scene after a motion sensor triggered an alarm just prior to 8 a.m. They were soon joined by the East Spencer Police and the Salisbury Police who set up a perimeter around the elementary school.

While law enforcement readied themselves for a potential siege they noted blood smeared on several exterior doors. A deputy peering through a window spotted a squat white female wearing a red shirt, black hat, and carrying a backpack. The female noted the presence of the deputy in the window and headed quickly toward an exit. Deputies called out to the female, but got no response.

Soon a deputy along with a K-9 named “Echo” entered the school. The deputy following protocol gave Rippey 3 warnings that if she didn’t come out of hiding and surrender, the dog would be sent in after her. When no response came back, “Echo” did his thing. She found Rippey hiding in a classroom cabinet. Soon deputies located a backpack and a cooler containing 5 iPads, a scarf, and $6.75. A knife with a broken point was found on top of a classroom cabinet. It was believed to be used as a window prying tool to gain entry into the building and was thought to be the source of the cuts on Rippey’s hands.

Later a search of Rippey’s car, parked in a nearby wooded area, turned up paperwork showing Rippey was charged with larceny by the Mooresville Police Department. A key to the Happy Traveler Motel in Salisbury was also found.

Sasha Cherie Rippey:

Rippey was charged with resist/delay/obstruct a public officer (misdemeanor), breaking and entering–building (felony), larceny (felony), and damage to state or local government property (misdemeanor). Under a secured $10,000 bond, Rippey was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center and later released on bail.
