♦ It’s no secret that drug and alcohol addiction drives much of the crime in Salisbury and Rowan County, N.C. Heroin, meth, opiate painkillers, and, crack, all extremely addictive drugs, top the list. Meth, because of its cheapness and its ease to “home brew” in trailer and garage labs is the fastest rising star. Someone could create a “faces of meth” website by culling appropriate mugshots from our Rowan County Mugshot page. Such faces are the tragic reminder that young people are not only becoming facially scarred and their organs and bodies age overnight, but they are suffering irreversible brain damage and cognitive impairment. Many of Salisbury’s and Rowan County’s human wave of men and women, who break into homes and vehicles, shoplift, sell their bodies, and do street stick-ups are meth addicts and they are among the most unlikely to seek treatment or stick with it. Their numbers are increasing.
According to sources in the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Elizabeth Marie Upright, 22, of 231 Haven Trail in China Grove, was arrested Sunday by Sheriff’s deputies on the 800 block of Tanner Road in Richfield, N.C. at 12:37 p.m. She was allegedly arrested for breaking into a building, larceny, stealing a firearm, meth possession, and failure to appear in court.
