♦ According to Salisbury Police sources and shoppers at the city’s largest and most popular retailer Walmart Super Center, at 323 S. Arlington Street, a one-sided fight took place late Monday night in the parking lot. A man identified as Andray Sharodd Charleston, 39, of Scott Road, was reported to be the victim of an assault-hands-feet-fist by a group of young men in the Walmart parking lot.  From all civilian accounts the attack was savage with Charleston being beaten to the asphalt where he was kicked and stomped repeatedly.  In the police event report Charleston’s attack was described as a “brutal assault” and “force used/kicked”.  The beating was reported to 911 dispatch at 11:59 P.M.  The police and EMS responded quickly.

The Victim Andray Sharodd Charleston:

Walmart Super Center, 323 S. Arlington Street, Salisbury, N.C.:

Charleston was reported transported to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center for treatment. Later it was reported he was transferred to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  Aside from the police report stating he sustained “internal injuries”, his current condition has not been released.  Late night shoppers reported he was bleeding profusely and his head and facial features appeared swollen.

According to accounts a disruption and much shouting happened inside the store between Charleston and a group of young men.  Store employees ordered them to leave.  Once outside, the group of young men began an assault on Charleston who was quickly overwhelmed.  Some bystanders turned away–others yelled for the young men to stop. Charleston’s attackers fled the parking lot area in a dark SUV prior to the police arriving.

The motive for the attack is not yet known.

Perhaps outdoor and indoor security cam stills will be released to help identify the attackers.  The investigation continues.
