RFP Staff WILL UPDATE THROUGHOUT THE DAY
Update: This morning Jonathan Dixon was captured in Salisbury inside a building on Auction Drive. He was returned to prison.
Update: Southeast Middle School, Knollwood Elementary School and Koontz Elementary are on a precautionary “code yellow” lockdown which means the classes continue as usual. In code yellow lockdowns school doors are locked, students may not leave the building, and no outdoor activities take place. Parents can enter the school building. School principals are sending messages to alert parents that precautionary measures are being taken.
Inmate Jonathan Dixon may be in the area of Southeast Middle. The search intensified this morning. Dogs are being employed in the area.
♦After an early morning escape on Monday, inmate Jonathan Dixon, age 27, remains at large in the Salisbury area. Department of Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Department, and other local law enforcement continued their second day of their intensive search for the elusive inmate who escaped from the Piedmont Correctional Institute 4750 S. Main. Late yesterday K-9 dogs joined the manhunt.
Authorities believe Dixon broke into a NCDOT storage building next door to the correctional facility and stole a uniform jacket with the name “Haywood” on its patch. Dixon is now charged with that crime. Authorities maintain he might be responsible for another break-in at a nearby storage facility. Nothing was removed. Authorities found a boot print matching inmate style boots worn at the Piedmont Correctional Facility. It appeared he rifled a desk drawer at a storage facility and used a computer while he snacked on a honey bun and potato chips.
Dixon, due for release in June 2017, is serving a maximum of 7 years for breaking and entering and several other charges. He may be headed for Pitt County, N.C. where family and friends are located.
Do not attempt to apprehend. Anyone who has seen Dixon or has knowledge of his whereabouts needs to contact local law enforcement or call the Piedmont Correctional Institution at (704) 639-7540.
