♦ According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources someone spotted a corpse in a wooded area behind the former Magic Mart store on 725 S. Jake Alexander Boulevard in Salisbury and contacted the Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday Rowan County Sheriff’s Office investigators, joined by the SBI, sent a cadaver dog into the woods that quickly located the corpse. You can imagine the body’s state of decay laying in the woods from May through October during one of the more hot and sweltering summers in recent years. Add to the heat and rain that scavenging animals and insects no doubt fed on the skeletal remains, making the corpse visually difficult to identify.

Wooded area where body was found behind the former Magic Mart:
The remains, found in the wooded area in rear of Magic Mart, were linked with a missing person who vanished last May. Perhaps deputies found tell-tale clothing or items associated with the missing person. Maybe the missing person’s state ID or credit cards were found. Yet someone familiar with forensic investigations recognized that such identification may not have belonged to the deceased. He may have found them or they could’ve been planted on him. The body’s positive ID will be left up to the N.C. Medical Examiner’s Office after they have thoroughly examined the remains and collected the evidence.
The Sheriff’s Office will release more specific information once the N.C. Medical Examiner Office provides positive identification for the deceased. We’ll also begin to know the cause of death. Was it by natural causes? By foul play? Suicide? An overdose?
