♦ One of Salisbury’s many virtues is that it has some great places to eat.  Among my favorites are El Patron, Downtown Bangkok, Ivan’s, Go Burrito!, Uncle Bucks, Il Colosseo and now Thelma’s Down Home Country Cooking at the front of the West End Plaza (Formerly the Salisbury Mall).  Only a few weeks back Mac Butner was filling my ears about what a great place Thelma’s was to eat–well he’s right.  Then Commissioners Craig Pierce and Jim Sides started bragging on Thelma’s.  Last Friday Tom Lynch and I scooted down to Thelma’s and enjoyed conversation and one of Thelma’s specials on the chalk board: BBQ chicken.  Well this was real tasty chicken in a lip smacking BBQ sauce.  My sides: macaroni and cheese and string beans were A +  The same score for my home cooked apple cobbler.  When I talk about the food when I’m grubbin’–that’s saying something.

One of the secrets of a first rate restaurant is that a staff that connects with its patrons.  The young woman who waited us was like an old friend–loved to talk and was extremely helpful in pointing out Thelma’s menu items.  Connection: A +

I warned Thelma that her restaurant would be given a favorable review in the Rowan Free Press.  I’m going back there today.
