Letter-to-the Editor: Homeless Mole People Living in Crawl Spaces and Under Porches in Salisbury

Emlen Adderly, Salisbury, N.C.

To the Editor,

Thank you for your eye-opening articles on poverty in Salisbury.

Census records do not match the enormity of poverty in Salisbury because many forgotten homeless exist: unaccounted for poor who don’t answer the door and illegal immigrants who stay out of view.  Thousands of poor each census go uncounted.  You see some on the street with backpacks in the evening or hunkered down under bridges.  Some live from dumpster to dumpster, searching out food.

There is a whole breed of unaccounted for homeless called “Mole people”  who only come out at night in Salisbury.  These unfortunates are mental and do not enjoy the company of others who they fear. These people live in crawl spaces, in basements of abandoned buildings, and under porches.  One such fellow lives out-of-sight in the front of a vacant building across the street from city hall on North Main.  You can see his cardboard container bedding if you step into that area. (Featured photo above)  He gets angry if anyone approaches him.  He’s been trifled with one time too many by the young bucks moving though North Main.

Below is a video of a Mole person’s crawlspace living quarters.  It is quite elaborate:

God bless.
