♦ According to city and Farmer’s Market sources, the Salisbury-Rowan Farmer’s Market directors are very disinterested in moving to the “cop lot” on North Lee Street. A seldom traveled area, the cop lot venue is viewed as too far out of the way. Few can foresee any benefit to the cop lot near the train depot. Nor does anyone see any benefit in being a spot doubling for festivals. Their current location on Jackson Street offers easy access to downtown’s major traffic arteries and can be found easily by both drivers and pedestrians. The Wrenn House parking lot at 115 S. Jackson or somewhere nearby offers many positives and none of the many negatives noticed at the “cop lot” which include:
• Out of the way location, not easily noticed in seldom traveled “Arts District”.
• Potential 3 year wait for city to finalize its plans.
• Lack of parking if “cop lot” is employed.
• Area safety concerns.
• Yet another inconvenient move pushed on the Farmer’s Market by the City of Salisbury. Any move constitutes a break in shopping patterns.
The positives for staying put in the Jackson Street Area (Current Wrenn House Location or nearby on the Maxwell Chambers Trust Block that includes a parking lot, the area of the Bell Tower, Gazebo, and the recently vacated First Bank):
• Easily viewed from major downtown arteries and easily accessed by both motorists and pedestrians.
• Brings potential shoppers and diners on a Saturday to hurting Main Street area.
• Plenty of parking in any of the Jackson Street lots.
• Much safer area than North Lee Street.
