♦ At the urging of Mediator Witchard in an attempt to avoid calling an impasse, the Rowan County Commissioners have agreed to meet with the Rowan-Salisbury School Board at 2 p.m. in open session on February 27th at the School Systems Administrative Offices at 314 N. Ellis Street in Salisbury. In dispute are budgetary concerns over operational and capital funding for a consolidated elementary school in West Rowan, Knox Middle School renovations, and a new Central Office. The meeting appears to be a last ditch effort to stave off the School Board’s desire to sue the county taxpayers.
According to sources within the school system and the county neither side has expressed much hope in a resolution.
