♦ According to a Google blogger, Charlotte N.C is one of 9 metropolitan contenders for a gigabit Google Fiber Fiber Optic network. A gigabit is currently the fastest high-speed internet available in the U.S.A. Such a network would put a hurting the Charlotte regions incumbent broadband companies including Time Warner Cable and AT&T U-verse and force them to step up speeds.
Google will announce updates about which cities will receive Google Fiber by the end of 2014. Extreme high-speed internet naturally draws innovation, economic development, and technology. Since Google Fiber showed up in Kansas City, Provo, and Austin, entrapaneurs and technology companies have flocked to those cities in increasing numbers.
Google Fiber produces a speeds of 1000 Mbps per second.
