♦ I see the decrepit downtown Salisbury powerbase is still trotting out the same tired candidates for county commissioners in hopes they can bleed the county to keep Salisbury on life supports. Salisbury is dead on the table and it won’t be able to be reanimated in our lifetimes. Most, who have the misfortune of calling Salisbury their home, will have loaded their moving vans, sold their homes and businesses, and moved to higher ground within a few years. The handwriting was on the wall for at least the last 5 years, if we took the time to notice. Salisbury was in deep trouble and the powers that be didn’t want to rock the boat or admit the canary went belly up. They still don’t.
You know the drill here. You see it in every county commission race and school board election: Salisbury tries slip their jokers in the deck so they can pull money out of the County taxpayers to support a failed public school system and a couple of miserable blocks in downtown Salisbury and their favored districts. It worked like a charm until the 2012 election when Craig Pierce and Mike Caskey whipped the Salisbury’s status quo candidates in the primary and flattened Belk and Walton in the main event.
The coming 2014 campaign must be utterly ruthless and unrelenting because we are battling a parasitic bacterium that already destroyed Salisbury and our public school system. If it attempts to drag our county and its taxpayers down into its sewer, it needs to be annihilated with truth and a door-by door campaign.
We know who the wolves-in-sheeps’ clothes are. The bacterial secretions they deposited in Salisbury and the school system are unmistakable.
Don’t let the Salisbury bacterium seep into the county and drag our county down.
