♦ In accordance with NCGS 153A-40(b), the Chairman of the Rowan County Board of Commissioners has called a special meeting to be held on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at school systems administrative offices at 314 North Ellis Street, Salisbury, North Carolina. The purpose of the meeting will be for the Rowan County Board of Commissioners to meet jointly with the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education to discuss funding needs for the Rowan-Salisbury School System.
This joint meeting is being called at the request of mediator Witchard who desires to avoid calling for an impasse. In dispute are budgetary concerns over operational and capital funding for a consolidated elementary school in West Rowan, Knox Middle School renovations, and a new Central Office. The meeting appears to be a last ditch effort to stave off the School Board’s desire to sue the county taxpayers.
According to sources within the school system and the county neither side has expressed much hope in a resolution.
